Rewritable tag that can control mobile devices.

This is an unpowered passive tag containing a Near Field Communication (NFC) chip and an antenna. Information such as web addresses or commands can be read from or written to the tag by an NFC-enabled mobile phone. The tag has a range of around three centimeters, and it is possible to write-protect it to prevent unauthorized reprogramming.

Applications for NFC tag stickers:

The tag can automatically change settings on mobile devices, launch applications, check into places, update social status, or even make phone calls or send text messages. The tags are also used for contactless payments using a mobile wallet.

This type of NFC tag has 1 kB of memory; it can be written 100.000 times and has a 10-year data retention period. The tag will not work if placed on a metal surface.

Create a game where the player has to scan tags at challenging locations – or use tags to guide tourists around town.
