Cork Fabric - Eco-friendly fabric with a unique look and feel

Cork fabric is produced by gluing very thin cork shavings to a textile backing material. Cork is inherently lightweight, scratch resistant, waterproof, and stain resistant. The cork fabric can be glued – or sewn with standard sewing machines.

Applications for cork fabric:

It is marketed as an environmentally sustainable (vegan) alternative to leather. It is used to make handbags, wallets, furniture, sofa pillows, and shoes. It has also been used in vehicle interiors.

The cork fabric is available in an assortment of natural textures and patterns. The virgin fabric can be coloured and printed with graphics to create a very wide range of looks. A clear protective coating is often applied to further increase the fabric’s durability.

Use cork fabric instead of plastics or leather on a sustainably-made bicycle saddle.

Ask a Question
  • Can you please include information about backing materials used ... polyester backing isn't something I associate with being 'environmentally friendly'? Can you clarify please.

The cork fabric is available with different types of polyester textile backings that reinforce the material and gives it strength and dimensional stability. It is also available with a cotton backing if you need a material without plastic.
