Magnetic Field Viewing Film - Visualises complex magnetic pole geometries

Video of the sample from physicsfun

This flexible sheet visualises the direction of magnetic field lines. The sheet is coated with translucent microspheres (hollow capsules) containing very small magnetic nickel flakes suspended in an oil. The flakes inside the spheres  align along the field lines when a magnetic field is present. The alignment of the flakes, and thereby the magnetic field direction, is visible because of reflected light from the flakes.

Used for:

It is used for quality control, product demonstration, reverse engineering, and educational purposes.

Details:

The film can be cut to the desired shape. It is highly flexible and can easily be wrapped around objects. The film is useful for viewing complex magnetic pole geometry close to the magnetic poles, but it responds only to strong magnetic fields; other methods should be used for visualisation of weak fields.

Idea:

Use it for wall art – use magnets to “paint” on the wall.

The sample:

We stock three sizes:

  • 9 cm x 9 cm / 3.5" x 3.5"
  • 15 cm x 15 cm / 5.9" x 5.9"
  • 20 cm x 30 cm / 7.9" x 11.8"

We also have a version of the 9 cm variant that is laminated on the backside. The lamination protects the functional coating and thereby makes the product more sturdy. This type is well-suited for school children.

All samples come with a laminated information card, which includes contact details for the supplier.
