Dilatant Impact Protection Material (aka D3O) - Soft material with very high shock absorption properties

€12.00

This material has shear-thickening or dilatant properties, which means the elasticity varies depending on the force it is subjected to. It is soft and flexible when moved slowly, but when moved quickly – for example, when compressed by an impact – its molecules lock together, thereby absorbing and dispersing the force of impact.

Applications for dilatant foam:

It is incorporated into a number of products, including back protectors, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and knee pads for motorcycling, mountain biking, winter sports, and personal protection. It is also used in protective sleeves and casings for computers and mobile phones.

Details:

There is a range of sheet products and standard components available; these vary in thickness, composition, and protective characteristics. Customised components can be moulded to specific requirements.

The sample:

The sample measures 4,5 cm x 5 cm with a thickness of 5 mm.

All samples come with a laminated information card, which includes contact details for the supplier.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Can I order custom dimensions?

We are not the manufacturer of the material and we only sell the sample you see in the shop. The manufacturer moulds three-dimentional shapes according to the specifications of customers. The contact details for the manufacturer are listed on the information card which is attached to the sample.

  • Does D30 come in a paste or gel form?

No. The specific D3O material is only available as a foam. But you can get gel-like materials from other suppliers with the same properties. These materials are called "dilatant" or "non-newtonian fluids".
