This thermoplastic dissolves in alkaline (aka basic) solutions with a pH value of 9 or higher. The plastic is available in different grades that can be processed using conventional plastic processing equipment. It does not dissolve in water, but it will degrade if in prolonged contact with water or moisture.
Used for:
It is used for dissolvable support material for 3D printing and as a hot-melt glue for temporary fastening in production environments.
Details:
The speed of dissolution is affected by the polymer composition, material thickness, pH value, temperature, and agitation in the solution. The dissolved polymer can be separated from the alkaline solution and converted to reusable soluble plastic.
Idea:
Use it as glue to assemble products that can be easily disassembled for recycling.
The sample:
You get 1 meter of the soft hot-melt film variant. This variant of alkali-soluble plastic degrades when exposed to moisture; the sample will not stay functional for long periods unless kept in an airtight environment.
